The History of Why I like History

When I was in high school, I thought I wanted to be a marine biologist, it was something that had always seemed fun and exciting to me. I had always been interested in History, however, I was one of those strange kids that liked history and science rather than history and English or math and science, I liked one of each. As I got farther into high school I started to realize that I enjoyed history a little more and that I really was not that good at science like I thought I was.

As I went along taking classes I started to decide which time periods I liked more than others, all four of my history teachers were fun and engaging and my high school Latin teacher incorporated a lot of ancient history into our lessons. When I finally got to senior year I started to look into more schools and decided that I would rather be a history major than biology, since I had all these good influences about history and I could not see myself traveling the world and constantly studying as a scientist. I decided on Mary Washington, close to home, in the center of a historical area, and well known for its education program.

Those teachers, as well as my grandfather who is a crazy history buff, showed me that history is an interesting topic, and when done right, can be a lot of fun to learn and teach. This made me want to explore more into the topics of history that interest me and spend a lot of time doing history. I look forward to learning as much as I can about history, especially the ancient periods.
